IEC: The Basic
EMC publications outline the basic conditions or rules needed to achieve electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). They serve also as building blocks for the IEC technical committees that develop EMC Product standards.
United States Government Agencies: Federal and State
- MSHT or the Mine
Safety and Health Administration: Federal enforcement agency responsible for the health and safety
of the nation's miners.
- NIST:
The National Institute of Standards and Technology is
a federal technology agency that develops and promotes measurement,
standards, and technology.
Europe and European Union (EU)
- CE: EMC Directive (89/336/EEC)
Canada
- CSA:
Canadian Standards Association: Examples: C108.1.1 Electromagnetic Interference Measuring Instrument-CISPR Type; C108.1.2 Electromagnetic Interference Measuring Instrument-ANSI Type; CEI/IEC 61000 Series Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
Industry-Specific Organizations (non-Government)
- FM Approvals:
worldwide certification and testing services of industrial and commercial
loss prevention products. e.g., Hazardous
Location Electrical Equipment: To help ensure that electrical
equipment won't cause a fire or explosion in an area where flammable
or combustible materials (such as gases, vapors, dusts, or fibers)
are present, it must be designed using various methods of protection.
Some types of hazardous location electrical equipment, include: Dust-ignition-proof
equipment; Electrical and electronic equipment
Electrical heat-tracing equipment; Electrostatic neutralizing equipment; Explosion-proof
(flameproof) equipment; Control and terminal enclosures; Industrial-control equipment
; etc.
- NEMA: NEMA is
the trade association of choice for the electrical manufacturing industry.
It serves companies that manufacture products used in the generation, transmission and distribution, control, and end-use of electricity.
- IP-65: a NEMA
standard that shows that equipment can withstand water or washdown
environments. This is ideal for industrial use, as in factory floors, and help insure production schedules are compromised lost and production
is maintained.
