Book Description
Traceable calibration of test and measurement equipment is a requirement of the ISO 9000 series of standards. Basic Metrology for ISO 9000 Certification provides essential information for the growing number of firms registered for ISO 9000.

Dr. G.M.S. de Silva who has a lifetime of experience in metrology and quality management fields condenses that knowledge in this valuable and practical workbook. The book provides a basic understanding of the principles of measurement and calibration of measuring instruments falling into the following fields; Length,Angle, Mass, Pressure, Force, Temperature and AC/DC Electrical quantities. Basic concepts and definitions, ISO 9001 requirements and uncertainty determinations are also included.

Includes worked examples in the text and solutions to problems which can be compared to real life situations.

Includes basic metrology principles and data that will be useful to test and calibration personnel in their day to day work.

Contains features of the metrology management structure which an organisation needs to set up in order to satisfy ISO 9000 criteria.

Book Info
Provides information that is important for test and calibration personnel on a daily basis including information on the metrology management structure which an organization needs to set up in order to satisfy ISO 9000 criteria.

About the Author
Dr. G.M.S de Silva has held senior positions in the fields of metrology, standardization and quality management in a number of national and international organizations during the past 35 years. He was a researcher at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London and has worked as the Head of the national standards laboratory of Sri Lanka and Papua New Guinea. Dr de Silva was UNIDO international consultant in metrology to sixteen member countries of the African Regional Organisation for Standardization (ARSO), consultant in metrology and standardization to the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution and Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation (CFTC) consultant to the Grenada Bureau of Standards. His recent experiences were in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia where he was attached to Research Institute of the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, as Manager of its Measurement Standards Laboratory (primary level metrology facility). In this capacity he gained considerable experience in assisting industrial organisations to maintain test and measurement equipment in traceable calibration complying with the requirements of ISO 9000 standards. He is a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) and holds degrees in Physics (B.Sc (Hons), University of Ceylon), Instrument Technology (M.Sc, University of Technology, Loughborough) and Electrical Materials (Ph.D, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine , University of London).
