Load cell sensors can be used in industrial scales and weighing systems. The images below show several examples of industrial applications where accurate weights must be measured. The first example shows large scales where trucks can be weighed before and after they have been loaded. This provides an accurate measurement of the amount of material the truck is carrying. The weight is important to determine the amount of material that is transported so it can be paid for. Another important reason to have the accurate weight is so the truck can comply with road weight limits. If the truck is overloaded, it's subject to heavy fines as it travels through each state.

Figure (b) shows a scale that is designed to weigh material as it's loaded into a hopper. The range of weight for this scale is from 0-50,000 lb. The material in the hopper is used as part of a recipe in a batch process and the amount of material must be accurately weighed if the recipe is to be followed correctly. Figure (c) shows a tank scale that is designed specifically for weighing the contents of a cylindrical tank. This type of scale can weigh products up to 150,000 lb, and the controls for the scales can be used to weigh multiple batches that may be sent to a variety of blenders and hoppers. A wide variety of small accurate scales is also used in quality control applications in factories where the product must meet a weight standard.
