Journals and Magazines

EMC

  • Compliance Club: UK-based journal featuring the latest news on EMC compliance and related topics.

  • Compliance Engineering: online resource for international developments in regulatory EMC compliance for electronics technicians and engineers.

  • Conformity magazine: publication for current regulatory and design information in the field of electrical engineering.
  • InterferenceTechnology.com is the online presence of ITEM Publications. For over thirty years, ITEM Publications has been the information source for engineering professionals dealing with interference problems-preventing EMI (electromagnetic interference) and achieving EMC (electromagnetic compatibility). This website is updated regularly to bring you the latest information targeted to your interests and challenges. Here, you'll find announcements on EMC products, a listing of professional conferences and events, breaking news on EMC issues, an inclusive directory of EMC products and services, and pragmatic tips from EMC experts, as well as their responses to specific questions.

Standards and Testing Organizations

EMC (USA)

  • EMLIB (NASA) -- This site has been created for the free distribution of electromagnetics software and related information. This related information includes relevant conference information, a list of other EM sites, and a user-defined searchable directory of people working in the EM field.
  • Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
  • American National Standards Institute (ANSI) -- functions as the administrator and coordinator of the United States private sector voluntary standardization system.
  • Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
  • Electronic Industries Association (EIA)
  • Joint Spectrum Center (JSC) -- The Department of Defense’s center of excellence for electromagnetic spectrum management matters; the JSC ensures the DoD’s effective use of the EM spectrum in support of national security and military objectives. Their mission: To enable effective and efficient use of the electromagnetic spectrum and control of electromagnetic effects in support of national security and military objectives. Major Responsibilities: Provides operational spectrum management support to the Joint Staff and COCOMs for contingency operations, exercises, and otherwise as requested; Conducts research and development (R&D) into spectrum efficient technologies to improve the Department's use of spectrum; Facilitates global spectrum information exchange by developing protocols, standards, applications, and information systems; Develops, maintains, and distributes spectrum engineering and E3 analysis models, simulations, software, and data; Develops, distributes, and conducts E3 and spectrum management training courses for DoD Components.

Environmental Testing Organizations (USA)

  • The Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST), founded in 1953 as a not-for-profit association, is a multidisciplinary, international society whose members are internationally recognized for their contributions to the environmental sciences in the areas of contamination control in electronics manufacturing and pharmaceutical processes; design, test, and evaluation of commercial and military equipment; and product reliability issues associated with commercial and military systems.

The word "environmental" in thier name refers to IEST's ongoing interest in these areas: the effects on equipment and machinery of natural, indoor, and extreme environments, which may occur under various aerospace, naval, and climatic conditions; simulating environments to better trace and predict those effects; and controlling the environments in which products are manufactured, processed, or tested.

IEST is the foremost organization addressing issues connected with contamination control. Thus, IEST will contribute a significant and unique expertise to the US TAG to TC 229 Nanotechnology. IEST is the Secretariat of ISO TC 209 Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments, and Administrator of the US TAG to ISO TC 209 which is responsible for establishing worldwide standards for cleanrooms.

ANSI/IEST/ISO 14644-1:1999 Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments—Part 1: Classification of air cleanliness and ANSI/IEST/ISO 14644-2:2000 Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments—Part 2: Specifications for testing and monitoring to prove continued compliance with ISO 14644-1, established the airborne particulate cleanliness classes for particles sizes ranging from 0.1 µm to 5 µm. IEST, therefore, is in a unique position to apply its knowledge and experience in particle classification to related nanotechnology classifications.

EMC Standards Organizations (Worldwide)

EMC Certification Organizations (USA)

  • National Association of Radio and Telecommunications Engineers (NARTE) -- a worldwide, non-profit, professional telecommunications association which certifies qualified engineers and technicians in the fields of Telecommunications, Electromagnetic Compatibility/Interference (EMC/EMI), Product Safety (PS), Electrostatic Discharge control (ESD) and Wireless Systems Installation.
  • National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) -- The National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) provides third-party accreditation to testing and calibration laboratories. NVLAP's accreditation programs are established in response to Congressional mandates or administrative actions by the Federal Government or from requests by private-sector organizations. NVLAP is in full conformance with the standards of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), including ISO/IEC 17025 and Guide 58. NVLAP identifies its accredited laboratories in a published directory, NIST Special Publication 810.

EMC Certification Organizations (Japan)

EMC Professional Organizations (USA)

Sound and Vibration Testing (USA)

  • Institute of Noise Control Engineering — The Institute of Noise Control Engineering of the USA (INCE/USA) is a non-profit professional organization incorporated in Washington, DC. A primary purpose of the Institute is to promote engineering solutions to environmental noise problems. INCE/USA is a Member Society of the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering, an international consortium of organizations with interests in acoustics and noise control.

  • Shock and Vibration Information Analysis Center — A central information resource for Government activities, contractors, and academics concerned with structural dynamics design, analysis, and testing, and shock physics and weapon effects.

  • Vibration Institute — A nationally recognized not-for-profit organization dedicated to the exchange of practical information about vibration and condition monitoring.

  • Classical Electromagnetism: An intermediate level course (The University of Texas at Austin)
  • Electromagnetism (Wikipedia) -- "Electromagnetism is the physics of the electromagnetic field: a field, encompassing all of space, which exerts a force on those particles that possess a property known as electric charge, and is in turn affected by the presence and motion of such particles. The term electrodynamics is sometimes used to refer to the combination of electromagnetism with mechanics, and deals with the effects of the electromagnetic field on the dynamic behavior of electrically-charged particles."

No matter how the change is produced, the voltage will be generated. The change could be produced by changing the magnetic field strength, moving a magnet toward or away from the coil, moving the coil into or out of the magnetic field, rotating the coil relative to the magnet, etc." (Hyperphysics)
