Vibration isolation hangers are used to support suspended pipes in equipment rooms, air ducts located below or near sensitive areas, and mechanical equipment. They are available with neoprene elements, steel springs, or a combination of the two in series as shown below. To prevent short-circuiting of vibration, hangers should be installed so that the hanger box can rotate a full 360 about the vertical axis of the hanger rods without contacting structural or other surfaces. The lower hole for the hanger rod should be oversized to permit the rod to swing within at least a 30° arc from the vertical without touching the hanger box or spring coils. Be sure also to avoid contact between upper and lower rods, and provide more than 1-in clearance between the top of the hanger box and the structure overhead to lessen the likelihood that the neoprene element will be over-compressed during installation.
