An introduction to the design of digital circuits with emphasis on the use of microprocessors . Electronic Filter Design Handbook by Williams & Taylor, published by McGraw-Hill 1988. A specialized book which is one of the few that deals with digital filter theory and design. Audio, general Audio Electronics Reference Book edited by Ian Sinclair, published by Blackwell Scientific 1989. A large reference book on all aspects of audio technology with contributions from well-known specialists. Magnetic Recording Handbook by Mee & Daniel, 1990, published by McGraw-Hill . A very large manual on all aspects of magnetic recording, both analog and digital . How to Set Up a Home Recording Studio by David Mellor, PC Publishing 1990. 124 pages, 40 line drawings, 35 photos . A complete guide to building an 8 to 16 track recording studio. Music and MIDI Practical MIDI Handbook 2nd edn, by the well-known R. A. Penfold, published by PC Publishing, 1990. 176 pages, 37 line drawings, 7 photos. A full introduction to and explanation of MIDI modes and channels. Advanced MIDI User's Guide also by R. A. Penfold and published by PC Publishing, 1991 . 160 pages, illustrated. A guide for the experienced MIDI user. Computers and Music, by R. A. Penfold, published by PC Publishing 1989. 176 pages, 50 line drawings 15 photos . Covers the basics of using a computer, via the MIDI system, to control electronic musical instruments . Digital audio Digital Audio and Compact Disc Technology is by the staff of the Sony Service Centre (Europe), notably Luc Baert, Luc Theunissen and Guido Vergult, published by Heinemann Newnes. It contains a very full and well-illustrated account of digital audio systems (though not to the point of mentioning bitstream) and is particularly useful to the reader who already has a good grasp of digital methods . The Art of Digital Video by J. Watkinson, published by Focal Press 1990. Deals with the techniques of digital audio and video recording by both magnetic and optical media . Treatment is non-mathematical. Principles of Digital Audio by K. C. Pohlmann, published by Howard Sams, 1989. Deals with all aspects of digital recording and replay. An excellent introductory text for anyone who has lost touch with the developments in video over the last few years . Magazines The audio magazines are by far the best way of keeping abreast of the rapid developments in audio technology.
